Rune darted into the woods, skidding to a stop as she lost his trail. She turned around herself, lost her bearings, and started forward again slowly. So far in she heard the yell and started, starting in the direction of it slowly.

The boy in question turned quickly, eyes wild but focused. Without even having to think he stepped back holding his hand out in front of him. "You followed me." the statement came out more as a question. The fire now spread up his arm, he shook his head at her. "Stay back Rune."

The fire brought a ghostly tingle through her scare on her shoulder, but she made no move to touch it as her gaze found his, alert and thoughtful. "There's something eating you up inside," she ventured slowly forward, tone easy and gentle even as sweat broke out on her temple. "If you don't let it go it'll get worse."

His gaze landed on her, noticing how she stared at his arm. Looking away he shook his head, the flames now appearing to have consumed his shoulder. With every step that she took forward, the stronger of an impulse he felt to flee. But no matter how much he commanded himself, his feet didn't move.

Rune moved an arm's length away, hand reaching forward but stopped. However, her eyes remained on his face as she studied him, tried to determine the best way forward from here. Then, she gently grabbed his hand, voice soft. "Kale, talk to me."

He flinched as she touched his hand, snapping out of his paralysis. Swiftly but gently he pulled his arm back, trying to put some distance between himself and her. Regardless he left his hand in hers, gaze pleading. Not only for her to stop but for some help. "Let go." his voice came out urgent and the fire responded, flames bursting a few inched higher. Watching he inhaled before placing his other arm in the distance, hoping that most of the damage would hit him.

"No." Slowly the drops moved to sooth the flame, and she didn't let go. "Holding on to something in fear of hurting someone else always hurts someone in the end. It could be you, it could be me, it could be someone more entirely." Her hold tightened a little, voice dropping to a whisper. "Trying to fight through it alone is the worst thing you could do. Your heart and mind take the fall, and may never recover."

An inaudible gasp left him in response to the hug. He stiffened before looking at the water around them. Breathing heavily he watched as they worked on diminishing the flame. Slowly-very slowly they started to die down as he listened to her. He couldn't decide if it was the water effecting him, , the words being spoken, or her presence. No he supposed it was all of them. After all the water was a part of who she was. By this time the flames had almost completely vanished back inside of him. Regardless he felt something break inside of him and his arms clutched at her desperately while his knees collapsed. A dam left his eyes as he shook.
