When her fist collides with his face she exhales slowly before her breath hisses in at his next statement, eyes widen "What are you.." her teeth grit, face shadowing as she takes a step back, arms dropping "You idiot." she whispers, face pale "No. And that's final."

Once he leaves Shade slams the door then sinks down to the floor with a small sob, hands shaking as she raises them to cover her face, veins starting to turn black around her eyes

Zlo reached the outskirts of the apartments, half consumed in frustration and fear as black and red picked away at his features. He was fighting within himself, outside himself, with himself. He let out a sharp roar, recognizing the feeling he had in his head.
"Stay out!" he snapped. "Or so help me, boy, I will tear you apart!"
Not before your friend is.
He whipped around, tail thrashing, though the voice was only a figment of his imagination, eyes widening in anger and fear. Zlo hadn't felt fear since he was human, why was he feeling it now?

Now he was a ticking time bomb.
He growled and took a different shape, like a ghost coiling in on itself as it slithered through the night, back towards Shade. He stopped halfway and took on a more solid form, the black and the red receding from his face.
Why does she get a choice?
Zlo's eyes flashed and his jaw ticked, teeth bared. "Stay out of my head," he grumbled, tail thrashing as his eyes grew brighter and more reflective.
You could do something.
Daddy!
"Enough!" he twisted inward on himself, vanishing before reappearing at Shade's door, leaning his back against it and slipped to the floor with a thump. His tail thrashed still and remained showing, though he was semi-back to his normal appearance.
Minus the moisture on his cheeks.
"Shade," he croaked, voice thick and wavering. "How do you get it to stop."

Hearing a thump outside her door she jumps before shrinking into herself at a growl
"Enough!"
At the sound of Zlo's voice a moment later, her eyes widen before she springs to her feet and opens the door, arms slipping around him as he speaks
"Shade. How do you get it to stop."
"Get what to stop?.." she whispers quietly, lips brushing his cheek, stills when she feels the moisture

"The past. The voices," his hands raise to his hair, eyes hidden by thick curls as his tail curls around his own waist. "The nightmares, the taste of fear....How do you get it to stop." His hands tightened their grip. "It's like it's all happening again, and I can't stop it."
Zlatann, breathe, his memory told him, taking him back to a more peaceful time, the time when he couldn't have stood for himself. Deep breaths, and the tightness will subside. He was weak then, but he never cared. But now, he cared about being weak, but in being weak he couldn't pull himself together stronger.

Listening, Shade pauses for a moment at his words before she shifts, sliding into his lap, hands grasping his face gently, black eyes slowly returning to their normal green as clouded worry for him takes over "You let someone in." she murmurs quietly, pulling his head up gently so their gazes meet "You find a reason to be brave, someone to be brave for. But... it's not easy, and it's a gamble. You could win in the long run, but you could also lose everything, even your life." on the last words, her voice turns barely audible, lost in her thoughts before she shakes her head hard "Zlo. Look at me."

He felt as though he were suffocating.
"Zlo. Look at me."
Zlo gave the smallest shake of his head, feeling small in the world, and worse that he had cracked in front of Shade. "It's exactly what I've heard before," he croaked, squeezing his eyes shut. "I let them in, and then they're torn away." His voice choked towards the end, breath catching.

Pausing a moment, she frowns lightly before she leans up and brushes her lips against her forehead with a small sigh "I'm sorry for whoever you've lost." she murmurs quietly against his skin, green eyes closing "But I was not built to break, and neither are you. You're a demon for crying out loud, so act like it. Be the man I know you are."
Voice strengthening, she pulls back and looks at his face, gaze slightly sharp, gaining some of her old personality back "What happened. Why are you being like this?"

A bitter laugh escaped, though he kept it reined in, slowly taming the flashbacks flickering inside his head.
"What happened. Why are you being like this?"
His voice was low, even, though his hands remained in his hair and eyes closed. "Someone was in my head," he started. "Last night." Zlo's breath shuddered again. "I get enough of the past daily. But this... This was different."
His hands ran through his hair to his neck, curls falling across his forehead, and from the images before, he was slowly recovering, though his tail was tightening in shame.
