"A friend of Zlo's," Kian murmurs before recognition lights up his gaze. "You're telling me it's the Hext boy?"

He starts a little and looks at her before taking a steadying breath. "Sorry about that," he murmurs.

Ace looks at her, questioning as his brow creases a little. "What do you mean? What do you know?"

"I know," he murmurs, "and I could almost guarantee this one won't be any better. But who cares? It'll be amusing to see how the former dog of the devil reacts to his brother becoming the devil himself. If he loses his fight against Lucifer's power. Most fall to it within the first few weeks of obtaining it."

"He's weak at heart, dear," Kian says with mocking disdain. "I've met him. He's nothing like his pal, Zlo, and definitely nothing like his brother. He won't hold Lucifer's tendencies back for long."
"I... I know he wants the illusionist.. And he's close to grabbing her.. Closer than the queen.."
Ace stares at her, face paling. "She's with Auguste," he murmurs, voice faint as he looks away. "I have faith that she'll remain okay."

He runs his hands through his hair, weary after the day's events and worry beginning to set in.
TS-- about a month
Walking down the hall towards the end of his day, he starts when he runs into Kian, muscles immediately coiling at the sight of Shade at his side. The demon grins lazily at him. "Looks like the mutt is doing well," he drawls, chuckling at Ace's expression as he tries to keep a level head.
"What do you want, demon?"
"Funny you should ask." He straightens, tugging Shade forward. "I'm bored of her, so I figured I'd give her to you, since you seem like you could loosen up some." Kian's eyes travel over Ace before meeting his gaze again, smile insulting. "And since everyone's toys seem to be passed to you."
Keeping an impassive look on his face with a locked jaw, he reaches out and gently takes Shade's arm, hand gentle as he glares at Kian, though the courage he shows he certainly doesn't feel. He pulls her away from Kian, a hand held up to her elbow to insure she doesn't stumble. "I don't trust you."
"And you shouldn't, but the queen didn't want something like her to go to waste, though I still think she's wasting her on you." Kian snorts and turns away, returning to his little hideout below as Ace fumes at the insult. Though a moment later he sighs heavily and releases Shade, stepping back as he says quietly, "I sincerely apologize for his prudence, and for the time you've spent with him."

"Time," he answers, meeting her gaze. Despite her having taken a bite out of him once or twice, he never held a grudge against her, or felt a shard of hate. No, if anything, he preferred her company over Kian's. "I expect no one had the decency to tell you about how time flows differently here." He gestures for her to follow him and continues on his return to his wing.

"It's the decent thing to do," he answers, stopping at the door to his wing and looks at her. "I'm certain you've someone out there," he gestures to the window, "and for them, it's been two years compared to the two months you've been here. No one's certain why that is, but it's how it's always been, though I'm sure the man in the middle is behind it." He pauses, and for a moment he looks uncertain and sympathetic. "Kian may have passed you to me, but by no means will I keep you here. You can go, return out there, and if anyone has an issue with it, then I will stand against them. But if you're to leave, I'd do it soon before Kian changes his mind."
