Stilling, she looks at him, gaze meeting his and wavering, slides her hands over his gently, leaning into one "How's Riri?..." she asks quietly, small shake of her head, pushing the subject of Periwinkle to the side for now "Can I see him?"

He hesitated a moment longer, taking a deep breath to steady himself. "After you died," he started, voice quiet, "years after, I had...met another. Gods, at the time I was lost and didn't know what to do, and Riad was a mess." He shook his head and looked down. "Eventually things grew, and we married, and...had another son, Elias." He paused, memories resurfacing. "But like you, she disappeared without a trace... And that was it, I thought I was done in. I tried my damnedest to remain level for the boys, but in the end, I failed and lost my battle to the grief, and...abandoned them."
His hand pulled gently away from her and ran through his hair, a habit that his youngest picked up from him. "Christ, Lorelei, I've ruined it all. Elias wants nothing to do with me, Riad is much wiser beyond his years and makes me feel out of place. I couldn't protect you and I couldn't protect Nova." A bitter laugh escaped him as he shook his head. "It's like I was damned from the very beginning."
