"When we die, it isn't like humans or other creatures," he replies, looking at him as he brings his arm to rest under his head. "We don't decay, being made up of things from both the heavens and the earth, believe it or not. Angels do the same thing-- when they die, they fall into a slumber. We can be woken by coaxing the soul back, or sometimes, there are some of us that when our will to live stretches beyond the reason of death, they'll wake on their own. It's why our grave sites are different. There's tombs instead of tombstones, and many of them are built to allow whoever is resting inside to get out easily if they should ever wake."

"Oh.." Carter murmurs, face brightening slightly as he presses his face to his shoulder, kissing it gently "Well, at least I know it'll be fine if I end up dying for whatever reason."

"I'm not sure you'd need to." Carter murmurs, smile softening "After all, I think my will to get back to you would conquer that of death, and I'd wake up, like you said. But.. Will your friend wake up?"

His hand comes to the necklace he's always worn, twisting it a bit. "I don't know," he admits after a moment. "For years Zlo wanted nothing more than to just...stop living. Until he met Belladonna, but even then he still wished for the suffering to end." He pauses a moment, a small nostalgic smile on his face. "Our roles were reversed once. After my father disappeared and my brother fell to Lucifer, I was bitter at the world. Before I lost them, it was my step mother, and my mother before that. I was in his shoes, wanting to just sleep and never wake up. So I drank, was bitter at the world. Then Ammiras and Zlo turned me around real quick, and it wasn't long after that that he lost his wife and daughter."
He swallows, looking down at the pillows. "When he nearly died the first time and I kept him here, he made me promise not to step in again, to just let him go. Though, I guess in the end I still stepped in anyway."

"I don't want to have his fit aimed at me when he wakes, to be honest," he admits, though he closes his eyes at the thought of having his friend back. At the second statement his eyes open again, and he looks at him questioningly. "What do you mean?"

For a moment he's speechless, though his arms wrap around the demon and he holds him close, burying his face in his hair and he remains quiet, though thankful.
